Underbody protection

Featured Replies

While grovelling under my Yeti's sills the other day (looking for the markers for the jacking points) I noticed that the thick-looking "stuff" which I presume is applied to the underbody to delay the onset of corrosion seemed to be flaking off at one point on the web just inside the sill. I don't know whether it's been clouted by something (though I don't remember any loud bangs) or just poorly applied.

Should this be a cause for concern?

On a related note, there are still sizable patches of road grit lying around the streets here, several weeks after the snow disappeared. I think we need a good downpour to get it washed away. Either that, or I suppose the council could actually get the streets swept once in a while... As it is, I'm reluctant to take my VFR out if there's still the likelihood of getting road salt on it.

When searching for the elusive jacking points I noticed some small areas of missing seal around cut out areas

if I remember right...seemed to me to do with it dripping off rather than adhering to the surface.

Might mention it at first service...Was tempted to touch it up with bitumen paint but resisted as could cause

a warranty issue (for messing with the application). Looks like bare black paint finish which could quickly corrode in recent weather/salty conditions.

My engine bay's 'silver painted/plated' items are already showing significant 'white rust' a bit like corroding aluminium.

Starting to build up some further quality issues....moisture in lights, poor paint finish,

discoloured badges that are a little annoying on 6 month old car ...previous Honda's

just required routine servicing to maintain pristine build quality over a long trouble free period....We shall see if the shine rubs off the Yeti!!!
