2003 Fabia SDI - Squeaking Noise?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I recently bought a 2003 Skoda Fabia. When I test drove it for the first time, there was a crunching noise coming from under the bonnet as I gained and lost speed. When I asked the seller about this, he told me this was a wheel bearing and it would be replaced. When I came back to take the car and drove it home, I then noticed that the crunching has now become more of a squeaking, and is not as loud as the crunch from before. Would anyone here have an idea of what this problem is and how I can fix it?

Probably console bushes.

My VRS bushes are shot & they squeak worst that someone taking a rubber mallet to a bucket full of field mice!!!

Guesstimate on the cost of fixing this? Does it need replacing straight away, or could it wait a few weeks? What kind of mileage should this problem manifest itself at? Any idea on how long replacement bushes should last?

Hi NuBrit

You have not said who the seller is, (Dealer/Private) but I would get straight back onto them and say its still not right, and you want them to sort it asap.

but if you are going to do the job your self, the parts are about £20 the pair,if it is the console bushes, and a couple hrs of a job ! and if you cannot do the job yourself, then I would expect to pay about £80 for labour

There is some talk about the Cupra bushes, but the new skoda bushes are a lot better than the old ones, I have just fitted some of these and has totally cured my squeak.

Just to check that it is the bushes (do a search on here, plenty of info on the bushes) and locate them and then squirt some WD40 on them and that will shut up the squeak, but won't cure the problem, but it will help prove the point.
