At what age/miles should cambelt be changed?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if there is a guideline for when to get the cambelt changed? Is it basically when a car hits "x" miles? And does it vary from car to car? For example, would it be the same for an Octavia vRS TFSI as it is for a Fabia vRS?

Both cars are 60,000 miles or 4 years

Great, thanks...

Any idea how much it costs?

My local main dealer said its 95000 miles or 4 years (Disel PD 170). I think that mileage is a bit high though. I'll check the handbook later.

Prices vary from garage to garage so its best to ring round and get some quotes. The average pruce is about £300 to £400. When changing the cambelt also factor in a water pump change. As to change a water pump you have to take the cam belt off. I changed the cam belt and waterpump myself for £174 last week to save a few pounds and the job was not difficult but more time consuming..
