vRS Booming Noise

Featured Replies

Got my vRS on the 1st and was well chuffed, looks great and boy does it shift but even after only driving a few short journeys I am experiencing an uncomfortable booming noise in the cabin :S Even the wife has noticed ! I have read threads about road noise and poor soundproofing but I don't know if I can tolerate this for the forseeable, the car I test drove seemed pretty quiet.

Any suggestions folks ?

Me too! Noticed on way home from picking up my car.

Any suggestions welcome.

A noise that sounds like when one pair of wheels is on the bumpy side strip/marker of the road or a seriously shot wheel bearing when exceeding 100 km/h/60mph is a known problem on your cars. It's not exclusive to the vRS, but I've never heard it on cars pre face lift.

It can be rectified by adjusting the front doors.

There are lots of threads on here with regard to sawtoothing of the rear tyres causing noise, but as your car is brand new I would not expect this to be the problem.

I fitted the trunk area including the sides and under the rear seats with Dynamat which helped a bit, but I found it helped more when you drive over the rutts in the road where it used to sound rather crashy, it now sounds more of a dull thud-maybe a little more solid sounding

it will be your rear tyres uneven wear on the inside edge. Complete nightmare and some seem to benefit from 4 wheel alignment being done by a specialist establishment. Not somewhere like ATS who told me mine was 'a ok' until the specialist used their equipment and found that the rear wheels were way out and the fronts were out also. It wont solve the problem ( chassis design issue apparently) of the uneven wear but slows it down.

My noise is not a droning like a wheel bearing, so I would not think it would be the tyre issue. The noise I experience is more like pressure in the cabin like when you open a sunroof or other window fully without opening another window slightly, but nothing as severe. I may be to do with airflow through the interior??? could be helped by door adjustment??? Is this like your issue AjH_vRS?

Yep Neil, I can only describe it as a low frequency sound that you feel in your ears rather than a sound you can hear, I am taking the car to the dealer next week to see what they think, I am surprised that more people have not got this problem, maybe I am just unlucky but the bottom line for me is that unless this can be sorted neither myself or the family can carry on with the vRS which is gutting as I love the way it looks and drives for the price I paid ...
