Volvo XC70

Yeah, I know its a Volvo, but I got a go in one of these the other day and really liked the way it drove. Powered by a 2.5 turbo diesel I think, it was quite nippy and even managed to get wheelspin from it at one point. Grunty engine, went round bends OK for a 4x4 too. A lot more like driving a car in my opinion, but with the added advantage of being above everyone else. :D Oh, and it was well tricked out - climate, steering radio controls, cruise, leccy everything. :)

If I was ever in the market for a 4x4 (proper one... ;)) I would consider this Volvo first above all the land rovers and other marques.

Great for crushing bikers too.

I agree - when not cruising the highways and by-ways in my DERV beast I may be found scaring other road users in my Mums XC V70 - she's got the 2.4 LPT (200BHP) with the Haldex AWD not only does it shift but I've only managed to get it to step out of line once and even then it sorted it out quicker than i could think - maybe that's the limit... then again no...

It's a really pleasant feeling when the TRACS cuts in and distributes power to the back - it's like mid corner you're no longer being pulled into the corner but rather propelled out the other side in complete confidence with firm push in the lower back. And when you

I don't want to say something insensitive here, as this could be something deeply personal in your life, Andy, but that wasn't in my test-drive repertoire, sorry* I was more on just hoofing it a bit. I noticed it didn't have bull bars though.

I did go down a rather high, high kerb, and barely felt it, so know where you're coming from. :)

If its a PROPER 4x4 then its got to be a Landie - the Volvo would die off road in comparison (which is where proper 4x4s should be :P :D ).

Jason, my Dad has a modded one - goes pretty well :D

Helped drive one down to the Alps last weekend in lots of snow, and severe cold & ice during the week. The D5 version.

It coped extremely well on its Scorpion M&S tyres - ABS never triggered and no loss of traction. The only wheelspin was trying to reverse it up a drive with a foot of snow on it ;) On this Haldex driven car at least, its a myth that the 4x4 doesn't work in reverse as all four wheels spun - or I dreamt it !

Anyway - a good cruiser, easy going. Reminded me of my old V6 TDi A4 Avant Quattro in the way it drove.
