Fuel gauge issue?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Can't seem to find anything on this unless I'm just missing it?

The last two times I have filled up the Yeti with Diesel I have noticed that the gauge reads as full, however after around 30 - 40 miles of driving the gauge has moved to around an 1/8 less than full..? This is confusing as no way should it reduce this much..?

All I can think of is either the gauge doesn't correctly register the amount of fuel in the tank or there is a leak or something. There are no signs of any fuel leaks though..!

I have the Yeti 140bhp 4x4 by the way.

Has anyone experienced this at all?

Regards

Mark

Sounds about right to me. But my consumption is fairly high as drive around London too much during the day.

Sounds about right to me too. It makes a change to have a car that doesn't indicate full for about 100 miles. If anything my guage is a little pessimistic. When nearly on the empty mark I've never gotten more than 52 litres in ,and it's supposed to be a 60 litre tank.

Trouble is, "Hawkeye SWMBO" ,wont let me go any lower on the guage. :wonder: ( :giggle: )

Sounds like mine as well.

So what are we saying here, the fuel gauge does not show a realistic full tank even though when you re fuel the pump clicks indicating the tank is full?

Strange..!

No, we are saying that it goes down as you driveemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

My old e39 BMW would do unto 100 miles before moving then go down quickly, the Yeti's just goes down in proportion to the fuel used....much better and more realistic.

But the thing is I noticed that it had moved around 1/8 of the mark when I had done around 30 miles. This sounds odd to me!

Thanks for the replies anyway.

Nothing unusual about that.

I usually do a mental estimate of how much fuel it will take at each fill-up by looking at the gauge. The pump normally stops a little before reaching my estimate, so the conclusion is that the gauge is pretty accurate and a little pessimistic. This is better than any other car I have ever owned, where the gauges usually took a long time to come down from full.

my fuel gauge does the same.

from full it only takes about 30 to 35 miles to show a drop of 1 segment.

from then on it seems to drop at the same rate.

there's 16 segments to empty so that would indicate a tank range of 480 to 560 miles.

i always seem to fill up when the gauge gets to the red zone and i've usually done about 400 ish miles.

all in all i'd say the gauge is pretty accurate

Cheers all.
