HELP FOR NEWBIE WITH VCDS

Featured Replies

Hi All

Ive been trying to de-activate the seat belt warning and a few other things with vcds ( i have a octy 2)

and am a newbie with the software.

I enter into the long coding helper, change the 4th digit from a 7 to a 5 hit 'Do It' and vcds informs me 'code accepted'

I also do the same sort of procedure for 2 reversing lights, auto un-lock etc etc

I close the controller exit vcds, turn ignition off, turn the ignition on again and the warning is still sounding (aargh, this is doing my head in!), next time i enter the control the 5 is a 7 again, the 2 reversing lights are unhighlighted again, etc etc, you get the idea, everything re-verts the the original settings.

Can anyone suggest what the hell im doing wrong!?

thanks in advance.

Try changing one thing at a time. First look at the seatbelt chime (it's the most annoying after all!) alter the overall code as you mention, then save that. The ignition off and test that.

Let us know how you get on emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Thanks, by 'Save' do you mean press 'do it'?

The first time i changed it i did just the seat belt chime and no joy??

I've just had a look at an autoscan from a 2005 MK2 Octavia.

The seatbelt warning is done by recoding the dash panel. The dash panel section should look similar to:

Address 17: Instruments Labels: 1K0-920-xxx-17.lbl

Part No: 1Z0 920 910 D

Component: KOMBIINSTRUMENT VD1 3560

Coding: 0003401

Shop #: WSC 24072 576 91855

No fault code found.

If you look at the label file 1K0-920-xxx-17.lbl in the labels folder of the directory where you have VCDS installed it gives you the coding options.

In this case the seatbelt warning is set by the 3rd and 4th digits of the 0003401 code, by subtracting 2 from the 3rd and 4th digits the seat belt warning should be off, giving a code of 0001401.
