got it at last

Featured Replies

hi one and all got the octavia at last (2010 1.9 tdi pd se)! , this is one nice motor ,im seriously impressed and so chuffed with it, one or two questions for you if you dont mind, im sure most if not all will have been posted before.. first up im going to need a proper spare wheel ,where and how is the best way to get one, also is there a way to resrict the height the tailgate opens to, as i had a heart stopper in the multi story !!and are the scuff guards for the front avaliable and easily fitted ?and finally on the filler cap it says no biodeisel but i thought most filling stations had a small percentage of biodeisel in there fuels now so where do you go to get "proper diesel" without bio deisel in it thanks for any help guys it really is a help getting all this invaluable info for a newbie like me!! "cheers"

Pictures please!

Is it just the spare wheel you need or the jack, tool kit and brace etc?

They will be pricey new from a Skoda dealer so your best bet will be eBay or a local scrapyard, a lot of VW, Skoda, Audi and Seat models use similar wheels so should be plenty around.

I think a brand new genuine steel wheel (no tyre) is around £50-60.

As the boot lid is on gas struts I think you might struggle to limit how far it opens. Remembering to be careful in car parks is worth not banging your head on the lip of the boot.

I'd avoid scuff plates, they smack of old driver or someone who can't park, I think stick-on ones are available from Halfords and other automotive retailers.

The warning on the fuel flap is so that you don't use pure bio-diesel, the small amounts mixed in with regular fuel won't cause you any problems.

Gosh that's some fast replies!! Really appreciate the help , eill a full size spare fit in the boot floor then? Although for the neat look I might go for the kit! That's nt too bad a price I'm assing the jack is a bog standard scissor one , I've got a spare strongarm so im going to mull that one over cheers. The scuff plates I meant were the ones that prevent you marking the sills with your boots as you get in and out ! Thanks again for all advice!

Spare wheel: you're much better off just finding one from a Mk5 Golf/Jetta/Mk2 Leon/A3 Mk2 (8P) from a scrap yard. They'll all be the correct spec.

New steel wheel, if you want to do it this way. Then just add a tyre (205/55/16):

thanks for the replies guys, wardy .. you say that anything from mk 5 golf etc would fit as its a 10 plate plate does that still apply as the guy at the scrappy says it changed when the octy got a facelift?? something to do with stud spacings holes between centres etc, anyway its all good as they have both sorts and jacks too thanks again

Your car will have a PCD (bolt pattern) of 5x112 which most of the currently Volkswagen group cars currently use. You should be able to take a spare wheel from any of the following cars without problem:

  • Octavia 2 (pre & post facelift)
  • Golf Mk5
  • Golf Mk6
  • SEAT Leon Mk2
  • Audi A3 Mk2

The scrappy might have got confused about the Octavia 1 as this uses a different bolt pattern.

Yep, as said - go with that list posted above. You'll have NO trouble. The scrappy is wrong as the PCD (distance between the holes!) remained at 5x112 for the Mk2 - facelift or no facelift.

I'll go with the same theory that he's thinking of the Mk1 and Mk2 Octy - which are indeed different.

Happy hunting
