What kind of oil in 1.4 16V ???

Featured Replies

Hi

What kind of oil is by default in Fabia 1.4 (from the factory) ?

I put Castrol 5w40 for 40.000 km now (4 times), and I intend to switch to 0w40 or 10w40...

What is recommended for 1.4 engines (I have a 16V 100 PS model) ??

0w40, 5w40 or 10w40 ??? That is a question.....

I am asking the same question please help us :)

I have been topping mine up with 10/40 part synthetic. This is what Halfords recommend (not sure if it right though). Might want to get that checked. It has been running okay though, and it hasn't been using quite as much as it has done in the past.

Does yours drink a bit of engine oil over time?

All those oils mentioned are the same grade when hot , the difference 0, 5,10 etc is their relative thickness when cold. Most engines these days warm up very quickly to enable the cat to operate efficently.

The most important thing to look for is the API spec of the oil. This will tell you how upto date the oil is compared with the latest 'designs' of oil. There are a number of websites that explain the grades.

To be honest most oils are sold on image not spec; Mobil one is a good example, you can by higher(more modern) spec oils for half the price.

Look in your handbook for Skoda recommendations and find the best priced oil to meet that spec. Don't be taken in by flash containers or slick marketing. VW themselves market the 'Quantum' range of oils for good prices and high spec and its Castrol oil!

I use now Liqui Moly full synthetic 5w40. I am hapy with it.

The car has 53.000 km and drinks about 200 grams per 4000 km

Thanks for the information :)

Thanks for the information :)

You can use a 5w-40 full synthetic as a quality option and provide longer drain intervals, or as a cost option a 10w-40 semi synthetic.

Plenty of suitable oils to look at here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/lubricants.htm

Cheers

Guy.

thank you Oilman :)
