Is my Scout the only one that rattles and squeaks?

Featured Replies

I bought my Scout in May or June of last year. It has done only 4000 km. Things have started to squeak and other parts are rattling. It's not a good sign. I bought a Skoda because of the promise of build quality etc. It sounds like the windows are rattling and various other parts are squeaking. The seat belt connectors are definitely part of the problem and the doors on the left hand side of the car sound like my wife's Peugeot 206. It's just not a nice sound and I was hoping for so much more. I live in Greece and the roads can often be a little uneven but I've driven other cars that don't have the same problem as the Scout. I have leather in the car which may account for some of the squeaking but not all of it. The rattling sounds are just too much though and it just gives me the feeling that the car has been put together shabbily. Does anyone have the same problem?

We bought ours in May, must have been built the same time as yours as we had several really anoying rattles. Took it to the dealer who spent 1/2 a day adjusting doors, tailgate etc & doing something with the dash, car came back perfect & is still perfect 20,000 miles later.

I would suggest bending your dealers ear

My old Octavia Elegance used to rattle and squeak quite a lot - and it turned out to be the door seals rubbing on the frames. I found that some silicon lubricant on the seals eliminated the problem. There is also a german product called 'Gummiflege' which gets really good reviews from various forums for sorting out the seals. I got a bottle from eBay but haven't used it yet.

I'll definitely have a word with him. Thanks for the advice.

It's not really something I'd know how to do or should have to do. Surely the car shouldn't be rattling in the first place. However, if the dealer fobs me off then I suppose I'll have to look into it. I live in Greece so the dealer may not be as professional as UK dealers. We'll see.

I was wondering what the best way to word my complaint to the dealer would be. Any ideas? If they refuse to sort out the rattling problems then is there an international central office I could complain to? I live in Greece so I'm not sure I'd get much joy complaining about the rattling. Help please.
