lumpy tickover vrs

Featured Replies

hi guys could do with some advice,

not long had my 06 vrs BLT engine and has been remapped to 166bhp.

just had its 90k service but the garage seem concerned with the very lumpy tickover when the engine is running warm/hot so much so the car seems to miss a beat so to speak and shudders.

all ok when starting up and cold tickover smooth and when driving and accelerating again all nice and smooth.

the car has been on the computer and has not shown any faults, but today they fitted a new injector loom which has not made any difference.

also in the last 3 months its had new duel mass flywheel and clutch.

is the garage making a mountain out of a mole hill or has anyone had this problem in the past.

many thanks in advance.

When is the last time it had a fuel filter? Could also be EGR valve diaphragm starting to leak air. If it isn't giving a fault code, it's not likely to be serious.

thanks for your reply, had new filter yesterday but will pass on the EGR information as they were talking about a dodgy injector which is worrying.

Injectors are extremely complex on the PD engines. Rocker operated via the camshaft and also solenoid for fuel timing. Might be worth checking the hydraulic tappets for signs of wear. Cam lobes have to be narrower to allow the additional rocker cams for injectors, and this is a known weak spot in the PD engine top end, especially if non VW505.01 oil has been used at any stage.

New injectors are a stupid price, but a few companies rebuild them for decent money.
