Fabia Roof Rack

Featured Replies

Morning,

Im after some advice, i would like to put 2 cycles on the Fabia VRS and i ant cutting my bumper for a tow bar " tow bar cycle rack" and i dont really wanna hang a rack off the boot. I was thinking off a roof rack. First of all is it possible to use a roof rack for a cycle "mountain bikes" and what style, make, size rack would i require.

Thanks alot.

You'd need to go to a specialist in roof racks etc, one near me hire's them out for boxes and bikes.

I have genuine Skoda Roof Bars in the loft I used once with a roof rack :)

I believe Thule (Pronounced Thu-lay) are your best bet

I think you can get Thule cycle carriers to fit the original bars, if not you can get Thule bars and cycle carrier for up top.

I use the standard Skoda roof bars which I think are made by Thurle and some cheap Italian bike carriers which were about 40 quid each - rock solid on the motorway but just take it steady cornering. Just watch out for car park caravan height barriers.

Also got a cheap Autoplas 415 litre top box - a large amount of space for about 80 quid. Nothing fancy but streamlined so I can still get 45 mpg on the motorway @ 70mph.

original skoda bars for me too (easier to remove/refit withouth a load of faffing!) and also have thule 591 carriers as they don't take the paint off the frames like some cheaper ones do. been thousands of miles and had no problems with stability in corners or straight lines.

Never seen the OEM ones new online (they are approx 100 quid from the main dealer) but you can normally pick them up used on feabay for less that 50 quid.

Found these which look similar to the OEM ones but I am not sure of the quality.

I've got the Thule stuff, consisting of:

Thule 860 Aerobars

Thule 753 Footpack

Thule 3003 Fitting Kit

Thule 561 Outrider Cycle carrier

Looks something like this when fitted and with a bike:

There is a problem however, with this system that the spoiler fouls on the ends of the cycle carriers, but I'd imagine it does with any roof mounted carrier, so I've got several paint chips on the back of the spoiler!

It cost me about £400 all in, but if you go somewhere like halfords and get all of it at once I'm sure they'd throw in a carrier or something for free, I always did when I worked there so worthwhile asking!

I was able to mount the carriers so it didn't foul the spoiler as it has numerous mounting points along the wheel gutter to fix to the bar.

I think we've got different styles of roof carriers, because mine has the front wheel removed it cannot be adjusted forwards and backwards, if I'd bought it all again I'd get some like yours so I could solve this problem!

G6314 could you not mount the cycle carriers the other way round so the forks of the bike are at the rear then the spoiler shouldn't hit the carriers

i've got the thule aero bars set up for mine with thule carrier

also how do you get the plastic clips out the roof gutter as i managed to snap one on mine,

Willcox that's genius! Simplest things, can't believe I didn't think of that lol.

I put a thin knife in the middle of the plastic, and prized them out that way, as the actual clip parts are at either end iirc.

Small precision flat blade screwdriver - lever the retaining clip in one end. Once I had removed them I never put them back back on the car as they are prone to break.
