Odd noise from wheel when parking

Featured Replies

my 02 vrs has all of a sudden developed a strange noise when I am parking. The noise is coming from the front passenger side wheel and it sounds like a large spring going or a large 'klunk'. I am supposed to be selling it a month when my mk2 arrives but with this problem selling will be difficult. I also dont want to spend a lot before selling so i though i would get your guys thoughts.

Maybe one of your springs has broken.....

It would seem like the sensible answer, is this normally an expensive job? It doesnt sound too bad to me but im no mechanic.

Fairly easy. Will need a couple of spring compressors, and maybe a hub splitter tool (I found a 7mm allen key in a socket drive worked just as well).

Best to replace in pairs, but if you are selling on the car I suppose you might want to do it on the cheap.

Note: you can only get the correct vRS springs from TPS or a VAG dealer. Eurocar Parts and the like do not sell the correct ones (regardless of what they tell you),

If you open the bonnet and look at the top of the suspension domes (proper name escapes me), the gap will smaller on the side with the broken spring (ie. nearside in your case).
