My carp driving has cost me

Featured Replies

I live and work in Saudi Arabia (they drive on the right)but come home every 3 months or so for a couple of weeks on leave. Came home a few days ago and landed at Heathrow where the missus picked me up. I drove home that night but I'm so used to driving on the other side of the road meant I kept getting pulled into the left side of the road where the kerbs etc are. It was a nightmare, just couldn't keep to the right and I nearly skiffed a few kerbs and there were a few moments when Gem tensed up. Anyway, I was coming up to a roundabout only 10 miles from home (after a 3 hour drive)and I took the roundabout unusually wide, wouldn't normally be an issue but the outside of the lane had some kerbs with one missing in the middle. I ran over the kerb and tw@tted the kerb quite hard and drove over the gap in the flagstones; within a mile the low tyre pressure light came on and I had a flat, changed that and took the car to the garage where the other tyre on the passenger side was flat aswell.

The garage took them both off and told me they were beyond rescue :( I'm especially gutted as they were winter tyres and had only been on a few months. So I had to pay for 2 Conti Sport Contact 3's and a full geometry check there and then. On the plus side, they did the tyre swops and the alignment for free :)

I've also noted that I get quite bad skill fade for the first few days after I come home with regards to spirited driving. I keep it in check but it's amazing how quickly you can loose that ability.

Bummer....sorry to hear that

However, at least there was no-one else involved and it was only a couple of tyres...could have been a lot worse!! :|

Sounds fishy to me .....

Wrong time....wrong plaice....

Good 'cod'! Sounds like you have had a 'whale' of a time!

Can you tell me where abouts in Lincolnshire you frequent and when you're next home and I'll keep well away!

I live and work 90% of the year in mainland Europe now but ive never had a problem driving off ferry and driving on the correct side for the place but HELL its the worst time to be on the road as all the others are a nightmare especially on roundabouts !!! I understand the problem though gutted for you dude at least now for next time you will be most likely VERY aware of it and might be you fixed :)

Ha ha, I wasn't driving on the wrong side of the road, just was driving nearer to the left side of the correct lane. Personally I'm blaming the guy sitting on my bumper in a chaved up Corsa whilst I exited the roundabout. driving in Saudi is quite unlike anywhere in Europe as you will often have an incoming car on the wrongside of the carriageway and lane discipline is non existent. You have to drive very differently than you would here so maybe that might be another reason.......honest:)
