New Octavia and Android phones

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have read various posts and discussions on the Octavia factory installed bluetooth kit and its support or lack of for various types of phones, and I am a little confused!

I am about to order a new Octavia with the factory installed bluetooth kit, can I expect it to work with my Android phone?

Many thanks

It should be fine.

Thanks...

Yep - if you are ordering a new one with Bluetooth they now come with HFP as well as RSAP so basically any phone will work with it as long as it has Bluetooth. With an Android phone you will not get all the features as you would with an RSAP compatible phone such as phone book download and the ability to read texts on the maxidot as the Android will connect through the basic HFP (hands free profile) and act just like a standard aftermarket Nokia kit would for example.

The one exception to the Android rule is the Samsung Galaxy S which has RSAP built into its firmware. I know because i have the older RSAP only Bluetooth unit in my car and this was pretty much the only smart phone that i could have to use my carkit (unless you class a Blackberry as a smartphone!)

If it works with Iphone 3/4 and Blueberry, nothing will stand on it´s way.

I looked at a new Octavia today and their is a small change on the interior, the gear leaver is dif.

No longer chrome, but black( gearshift numbers) with chrome stripe all around on the outside. The leaver itself is a bit dif. also.

I have the factory fitted Bluetooth and use an Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) running Android 2.2. Aside from the usuall I can download the phone book, but no SMS facility through it ,which is no great loss for me.

Android works well, transfers phone book ok but no sms features. The only problem is with Google contacts, I had to delete all my Google contacts and stop them from syncing, the reason for this is they crash the Bluetooth system when transferring the phonebook (which happens every time you connect).

All the updating business detailed early on in the thread seemed to work at first but the Google contacts fix later in the thread cured the problem for good.

Hope this helps.
