Featured Replies

The wait is almost over !!!!!!!!!

Never bought a new car before so no idea what to look for do I just do the usual look it over carefully etc check all I asked for is on it or is there anything else I should do??

The most important thing to do is get the keys, get in the car and then enjoy your nice new shiny toy.

Get some face cream on so you don't wrinkle when you smile . . .

A salesman's dream come true.

And just keep your fingers crossed that everything is all right, after all what can possibly go wrong !!!!!!!!!

Must say that I would not do it this way, rather be safe than sorry.

I always fully inspect the car and all the paper work before signing and paying for anything.

haha is this a bad time to say ive never even sat in a VRS or driven an Octavia ever :D got a lift in a 57 plate 1.9 PD TDi 105bhp once ..... loved my wee Fabia VRS

Check to see all your options are there, spare wheel in boot, jack and tools etc

I always check around the edges of the open doors, to look for scuffing and damage in case it has bashed into something whilst opening

And try your best not to stall it in the car park on the way out, like i did.......

Check the service indicator is on the program you want, i.e. variable or fixed

It comes from the factory set as variable, however some dealers will set it to fixed so they get more servicing out of youemoticon-0104-surprised.gif

On mine the garage had missed the the rear boot 'VRS' badge had the 'S' missingemoticon-0149-no.gif

Cheers for the replies all

Powermalc is there a way for me to check that it is on variable myself without taking their word for it?

Watch the brakes  i collected my first one and everyone was watching, i set off at 2mph and though i'll just bra... *thump* :giggle: peeled myself off the windscreen headed to the edge of the road and thought right i'll just do it really gentl... *thump* :giggle:

There's some kind of coating on the pads, it wears off but they're razor sharp when you first get them.

As per all above take your own sweet time when you pick it up. Nothing worse than finding something wrong later and you should be able to afford time to check the quality of such a significant purchase.

Be methodical, check every panel is blemish free and check for panel fit, check every option is fitted and where applicable make sure they all work (the sales guy should be able to demo anything you are unsure of). Check the wheels are undamaged.

And yes the brakes are very sharp when new.

Have a good look over & check for any damage. 99.99% of cars are fine but you might get the odd one. Scratches & scuffed wheels will be hard to argue once you collect the car, blemishes in the paint, mis fitting panels etc can all be spotted with a good look over in the next few days & the dealer cant argue that you did it.

Just get out & enjoy it & if you can stop driving over the weekend allow some time to sit in it with the manual working out what all the knobs & switches do

Is the spare wheel a space saver, full sized road wheel or totally absent. ???emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I presume you have collected your new toy by nowemoticon-0100-smile.gif

Anyway to check the service - go into the maxidot menu under set-up and scroll down to 'service interval' and then 'service'. It should show at least 15000 miles and 700 days from new. If its about 10000 miles the dealer has changed it to fixed.

On the 'service interval' menu, do not press 'reset'. That will change it to fixed. Only the dealer can set it to variable

Its a 205/55 x 16 on a steel wheel. Its now a cost option.

Depending on the Octavia model you have ordered it could be a full size (Elegance) or space saver (VRS)

Unless you order one with the car there will be no spare. If you do order one then you will get a steel wheel that is called a space saver but is a proper sized wheel, just not as big/wide as the alloys.

I would always check over the car before driving away but surely the most important thing about getting a new car is enjoying the experience of driving it away!!!!!!!!!

I'm with PSM...... just enjoy the new car. I've had mine almost 3 years now from new....

Thoroughly enjoyed every mile and the car still makes me smile and have fun when i'm in the mood.

I'm just about to change car right enough; but the new shape Octavia vRS is still a temptation.

Good luck with your purchase - let us know how you get on.

Enjoy! Mine puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Just watch out for Mr Gatso!!!!!!!

It is defiantely worth looking fully over the car.

When I picked up my beauty, I had a scratch down one of the doors. Fortunately, it was just surface, and polished out.

Make sure if you have agreed an amount of fuel, it is there (I got mine empty, and it was supposed to be full)

Daylight runnign lights. they should be set so that you can switch them on and off, but mine was not, so they had to sort that.

Good luck.

Definately check for any damage, scratches, etc. When I picked up my Audi, I found some scratches on the bottom edge of the front bumper. Quite noticeable as well, but fortunately the dealer sorted it quickly without fuss, just as it should be. I'll be checking my new vRS over carfully next Saturday!
