Another newbie - Midlands this time - decisions decisions!

Featured Replies

Hi all. Haven't yet taken the plunge on a new car yet (still owe bank-of-dad for current car), but will be going Skoda route via PCP as soon as I'm able. Will have around £18K to play with, so will either be VRS estate OR 1.4 SE Yeti. Two very different cars at around the same money after adding options to the Fab.. Joining in these forums and chatting to owners of both cars will hopefully help me decide one way or another.

I'm actually driving a Citroen C4 1.6 petrol at the moment - understeers like a dog with the most gutless, characterless engine you can imagine, along with the notchiest gearshift to go with it. I'm driving this after my RS Megane hit a tree, whence the missus banned me from having anything as fast again... The more reserved power and kerb-presence of the Fabia is allowed by her though, so I should be in luck, but then the Yeti is sooo nice to be in.

Farmers Leicester have let me test drive both cars - the manual 1.2 Yeti they let me loose in was a joy, although the way I was working the (gloriously short throw) gear shift I dread to think of the MPG I was getting - but I was seriously impressed with both its cornering ability and its pickup - certainly didn't feel like 1.2 litres in such a big car.

The vRS felt just right though. Great hugging seats, and the slight tail-heavy sensations I felt through a few roundabouts felt joyous after the C4. But is it as well-specced and well-built as the Yeti?

I have a wife and a small dog, no kids as yet, and spent 90% of my car-time alone on the journey to work etc. Waiting lists don't bother me - I'm looking at ordering in early summer for delivery later in the year which should coincide with other payments finishing. I guess I'll just have to endure that sweet pain of deciding for a while.

If anyone's still reading - I look forward to reading more on these forums and getting to know you all. I've been lurking for a while now, so it feels good to be up front and be able to ask stuff.

Hi and welcome aboard.
