Illegal to tow with a vrs

Featured Replies

Speaking to a police traffic officer the other day (I know him not pulled over!) and told me that he is under the impression that towing with a fabia vrs is illegal because in the owners handbook there is no weight guide line for towing, skoda it would seem forgot about putting any guidelines in, or are we missing something?!

What does it say on the V5c (registration document) as that should show the official position. Legally, what it says in the handbook is irrelevent, as far as I am aware. It is what is on the DVLA database which counts, that should come from the official vehicle homologation details.

I heard that it's legal in Northern Ireland and the Rep. of Ireland to tow with a Mk1 vRS and but it's not legal on the mainland to do so.

And I believe the tow bar wasn't type approved for the vRS

I dont think skoda ever tested the vrs for towing?

Your police friend is correct. The vRS is not homologated for towing - if you look at your V5C (Registration cert) the towing weights are blank. I think when the car was originally released Skoda thought they wouldn't sell very many vRS's so didn't bother with extra expense of homologation for this model.

On another forum ribs, a owner was pulled over and fined and had to detach his rib straight away so I would definatly say they were onto this!

I suppose you'd be perfectly fine Tech1e, as the estate on which you based it may well have been tested and have towing weights noted for it.

Quite amazing though, I wonder how many people around the country are towing with a vRS then and unaware of this...

I would imagine quite a few is there any reason why the vrs shouldnt tow (apart from not being tested) surely it would be as good as the 1.9tdi does the six speed box make a difference?

Theoretically a vrs can tow no problem

They just never got it approved so in the eyes of the law its illegal

The law is an ass
