hi guys.

i wont keep you reading a long post that goes on and on, so i'll get straight to the point.

my boot wont open when the doors are all unlocked. you can hear the mechanism working when you put your hand on the pressure sensor thingy above the number plate to open it but it just wont open.

its now sealed tight and i cant see any way of getting it open again as theres no little panel on the inside to pop off to get to the workings..

i kinda need my boot, cause thats where i store stuff when i'm driving!

any ideas chaps / chappettes?

i've tried pushing and pulling down on the boot lid when i've got my hand on the sensory thingy but no luck.

Iain.

Had a similar thing a while back.

It can be one of a few things:

1. The cabling which goes into the switch is broken

2. The fuses which serve the boot lid are blown

3. The boot catch release solenoid is broken.

If it's an emergency to get into the boot to investigate, you'll have to drop the back seat and open the mechanism from inside the boot.

For number 3, try spraying some WD40 onto the white motor - sometimes it gets all gummed up over the years and refuses to open.

thanks for the quick reply...

one question though... where is this sacred 'white motor' you speak of?

White motor/actuator - it's located at the bottom of the boot opening, near the boot catch to the right. You can only get to it whilst the boot is open, and you may have to take off a piece of trim to get to it (mine may be missing a piece of trim so I can see it straight away heh!)

got ya.trouble is, the boot is shut tight and it wont open!

how does it open from the inside??

My friend has a similar problem. He opens his boot by pushing down on it as hard as he can while he pushes button by the number plate to open it. So rather than just pressing the button, while he does it, he pushes the boot downwards and it opens everytime. Worth giving it a shot I suppose :)

That usually works for me when mine has a mardy and refuses to open

I found that if I pull whilst pressing I got nothing. Try pressing withought pulling and that done it for me

My parents fabia did this, ended up being the actual latch itself.. They were told it was a common part at the time.

You can get the boot open to investigate from within the boot.

Drop the seats down - reach forwards where the (orange on mine) boot mechanism is - there should be a thumb switch on there. if you press it... It should open. If not, remember to arm yourself with a screwdriver and just open the catch by pulling the catch towards you.

Try variations of locks on/off, child locks on/off, ignition on/off and so on. Our W reg will do this now and again and the answer is to turn everything off, lock car; open; key in ignition (keep off) and try again. No idea how it works - have pulled all apart and rebuilt and still no answer. No don't worry just do above.

Best of luck.

Does the lever down by the fuel filler cap lever also not work?

i've found what it is guys. i got the boot open and stripped the plastic trim to reveal the mechanism and the white gubbins thingy that does the push pull to open the lever. the actual metal holder that holds the white thing in place has snapped so i need to get the whole new part (the catch etc...)

part number is 6YO 827511A.

been quoted 23 quid plus VAT from Skoda themselves, so i might just see if a local scrappy might have one before i purchase.

anyone else had this?

ive taken a photo looking straight down into the boot so you can see what i mean...

its a clean break!!
