overheating, fan thermostat problem?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone!

I am Marco and I'm from Italy!

I have a felicia 1.3mpi with some overheating problem and i'm trying to figure out how to fix it.

Yesterday I was doing some tests, and I noticed that the temperature sensor is working (5k Ohm when cold, 350 ohm after running about 10min idle).

But after a ride, I tried to reach temperatures where the fan should kick in, but i reached just a little under 110°C and the fan did't yet start...

If I bypass the temperature switch in the radiator the fan works.

Is normal that the fan didn't kick in? At what temperature does it start working?

Sounds like the fan temperature sender switch has died. Replace that & see what happens.

Thanks for the answer! :)

Is that sensor in the right side of the radiator ?

Where can i find one?

I only know ebay as online store, is there something more specific for skoda cars?

Jorily here in the UK do worldwide mail order. You may even be able to get one from your local car parts store, as the switch probably isn't just used in a Felicia.

Yes it normally is the one in the radiator. When changing the swictch, put a bowl under the radiator to catch the coolant as it comes out.

How much coolant is supposed to leak off?

That depends how quick you are at swapping the switches over. If you do not know how long the coolant has been in there anyway, it may be wise to drain it all off and put fresh in..

i took mine off and lost about a cup full, if you leave the cap off the expansion tank you will lose a lot more.

word of caution to the wise.. if it feels like it wont undo then don't force it!!! be prepared to have to buy a new radiator, often when they've been in there a few years they lock up solid
