Mobil 1 for variable service?

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Does anyone know if Mobil 1 is suitable for variable servicing? I went to a local dealer to get a tub of the usual Quantum, but they said they use Mobil 1. When I asked if it was suitable for variable servicing, I was met with a blank face and "errr... I don't know". I decided against it on this occasion as they couldn't give me a definitive answer.

Any thoughts?

If its Mobil 1 ESP 5/30 it is VAG spec 504.00/507.00 which is the correct oil to use. I use it my self as i got a few from Asda @ £15.00 when they were selling it off.

"Mobil 1" is not an oil specification - it's a marketing man's brain storm.

The current oil specification for variable servicing for a PD diesel is VW spec. 507.00. If it says on the container that the oil meets this spec. (no waffle) then it's OK. The example given in the link is fine, but "Mobil 1" covers a multitude of applications and there are loads of them - obviously the marketing man got it right when he thought up the name.

rotodiesel.

Local Main dealer is using MobilSuper 3000 5W30

Be careful with it, I bought some old spec stuff a while back, when I got it home it only went up to 505, not 505.01, personally I doubt it makes any difference, but those wanting to play the VAG great specification game should beware, I used it in my 2.0 PD as top up oil as the darn thing is an Oilaholic.
