Non Linear fuel guage

Featured Replies

Guts ' n girls,

Im sure its not just me but the fuel guage on my fabia seems to be wildly innacurate. If I full the tank brim full, right to the filler cap then as I wold expect I can cover around 75 miles before the needle starts to move. This carries on slowly until at half a tank I have covered around 350 miles. However once the guage gets to below half way I only get about another 100 miles from the tank?

I'm sure its not just me, but is this any worse than normal?

i think nearly all the cars i have owned have done this. fuel gauges are rubbish

Just seems worse on this car than others Ive owned.....

Bummer that my dealer tells me I can't get a fuel computer fitted as standard. Makes working out mpg a bit of a hit and miss affair.

I wonder if it's something to do with the arm the float is attached to in the tank - less fuel means more movement up down as it sloshed about, so the instrument on the panel becomes inaccurate.

Probably a load of sloblock that theory but now curious...

Best one is in our old Riley, waves from empty to full as you go along, so you always keep a jerry tank in the back & wait till the backfire to tell you the gas has run out....

My old Rover 220D always told you the fuel level even with the ignition switched off and was a very accurate gauge - handy back then when the fuel protests were on!
