queries about the front arm and the frame

Featured Replies

I recently(2 days back) rammed by fabia in to a pavement , cos a 2 wheeler violated his signal , and to prevent my car from running in to him , I hit the braked hard , and skidded on to the pavement .

So this is wahat happened to my car , my from right wheel moved backwards , and is currently rubbing with the mud-flaps .

And also , my alloy is damaged . I managed to take a few pics , and this is what it looks like ..

The service engineer @ skoda says that , I might have to replace the entire lower frame , Am very skeptical about it , cos I got my car 2 weeks back :( ..Will replacing the lower arm suffice ? Any other alternatives ?

Pl help ..

Thank You

Sorry to hear about your accident.

It's difficult to know what may, or may not have happened underneath. It certainly looks like the lower arm is bent but the only sure fire way of knowing whether the subframe is bent is to have the car put on a jig. The mechanics will then be able to determine what if anything else is out of alignment. Most bodyshops should have a jig, so your local dealer may have one.

Alternatively, you "could" get the lower arm replaced, have the front wheels aligned and then see how it goes from there, but in theory, even if the subframe is out by just a degree or two, then adjusting the wheel alignment may be insufficient.

Hi Vijay, sorry to hear about the accident. I'm glad you were not hurt and you did not hurt anyone else. Your quick thinking saved the day. I have to concurr with Supabalicious on this one. If possible get the car checked on a jig for 'truth'. It's the best way. Hope it is covered under insurance. Good luck my friend. Let us all know how you get on.
