Hi All,

In a couple of months time we are planning a longish holiday in Spain

The car has 17' wheels - I have no spare just the gunk option

If I have a tyre problem in Spain I know, (expect), that 17" tyres could be difficult to find quickly so I am thinking about carrying a spare 17" tyre with me so at least if I have a problem I can use the gunk solution and then for a more permanent fix any garage should be able to fit a new tyre if I have one with me.

Do you guys see any problems with this - the 17' tyre should not take up too much room - (I would prefer this to the space saver spare, as I would still have to find a new 17" tyre to travel any distance on at a reasonable speed)

Also I really would like to take a jack with me, just for piece of mind, any recommendations? - not too large but good - are these inflatable things any good at all

Hi Bill.

I would take a trusty scissor jack and a quality wheel wrench.

Make sure you know where your jacking and towing points are too.

Don't forget................

reflective jacket

tow rope

Jump leads

a couple of blankets

a torch

A map

Phrasebook

Make sure your oil, and fluid levels are a maximum :yes:

Digital camera

Cellphone thats capable of international roaming.

Have a look at one of these http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002701&langId=-1&productId=1500981551 they are originally for caravans (which is what the brackets are for) but I have one that I use with the car as well - in fact I keep it in it's neat box in the boot, I once had to try and change a front wheel at 1.00am in the morning after a long evening in a resturant (no drink, I was just dog tired) trying to jack the Tuscon up with a mechanical jack was very hard work. I also had a mechanical jack for my caravan too, so I went and bought one of these the next day..

Find a VW one from a breakers.

The jack from my 1998 Passat fitted in the slot in the boot (Jan 2010 Yeti) like it was made for it.

I'm told garages hate the gunk - costs more to clean it off and fit new tyre than just chucking it away and starting again.
