Ash Tray Lid Removal-

Featured Replies

Hi

First post on here so please be gentle...

Had my new Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.9 TDi for just over a month - it's a company car and replaced a 4 year old Octavia... I've been very happy with both.

I was parked up today and put my mobile phone on the ash tray flap. I then accidentaly pressed the flap and it went up- taking my mobile phone with it!! Now the phone is lodged in a small space behind the flap and above the ash tray... and I just can't get to it!!

Anyone know of an easy fix or is it going to have to go into a dealership??

Cheers

With the ashtray lid open, pry up the gear lever gaitor surround , it just clips into place. Then 2 torx screws are uncovered which hold in the ashtray unit. Remove them and maneuver the unit out.

Great! I've just found this post after doing the same thing with my Credit Card. Ashtrays should come with a warning!!!

Cheers

Does the DSG surround pull off the same way?

I havn't dared try the DSG surround. Only did the ashtray because it had eaten my Crdit card!

Thank you @squidgy! I just took out my iPhone 5 from the space in front of the ash tray stowage compartment by following your instructions! have an Octavia Mk2 TSI 1,8 with DSG 2010. The surrounding came of enough in the front end to reach the two torx screws. Be careful though, and DON'T PUT ANYTHING ON THE LID TO THE COMPARTMENT :-)

I've just done the same thing...always have the iphone sitting on the ashtray lid while its charging. Managed to retrieve the phone without removing the ashtray but wish I hadn't been so heavy-handed as I managed to break the latching pin so the lid won't stay down anymore :(

There's been lots of posts about this problem.  Removal of the ashtray is simple enough .... with the lid open (yes!!! I know it's always open LOL!!) grasp the gear lever gaiter surround and gently pull it up - it pops out easily enough.  Then undo the two torx screws securing the ashtray and ease the ashtray towards the gear lever.  A quick examination of the mechanism will reveal the problem ..... the small plastic "peg" which operates the locking catch will be broken.  I drilled a small hole through the bit where the peg "was" and inserted a small self tapper, which had been carefully trimmed to length and Hey Presto! Job done. all you need to do now is put the ashtray back in situ, replace the torx screws and the gear lever gaiter surround then treat yourself to a cuppa.

I've used a stick and blutack.... a bit of patience and you can fiddle most things out
