Telephone preparation for new Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi, I've ordered a new Fabia MonteCarlo with sat nav and a few other extras and I wanted to add the telephone preparation kit, unfortunately the dealer has told me that the car is due to go into production in two weeks time so it is too late to alter anything, does anyone know if the factory fitted telephone preparation bluetooth kit can be fitted afterwards or will I have to resort to an aftermarket unit? Thanks

I expect it can be fitted as an aftermarket. There are a number of companies offering such upgrades on Golf MK5 and 6 cars. Usually it is just a loom and the unit itself that needs installing, then a simple recode. Fabia might be a bit less plug and play than the bigger cars though; know retro fitting cruise can be done but its not an easy or cheap job (dash out affair).

Personally I'd just leave it. On a bit of a rant now but I dont care what anyone says but its unsafe to use a mobile phone in any way whilst driving a car. I used to have a handsfree kit in my last company car and I had journeys home from work that I barely remember because I was on the phone chatting, sometimes it actually quite frightened me how little attention i'd paid to my drive home. My company as a H&S measure have now banned the installation of car kits unless you absolutely need one for your job. Needless to say I no longer have one. I think its only a matter of time before the use of hands free becomes illegal; its a real grey area as it is. See how quickly the Police will try to prosecute you if you have an accident whilst on the phone and kill someone.

Going off topic slightly but why oh why is it not OK to use a mobile phone whilst driving, or eat or drink for that matter yet its apparently still perfectly OK for people to smoke whilst driving? This is the most illogical thing ever and drives me mad! When ever I see someone in front of me flick a fag end out of their car window i'd love nothing more to give them a slap! :-)

Plenty of retrofit companies and even well regarded perfomance company sharkperformance retrofit bluetooth.

But remember you will have to pay vat and then labour for someone to strip stuff out, wire it in and the code it. Usuall cost is around £400.

You can get aftermarket systems for half that price though but not sure how well they integrate.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply, you've made a very good point and I know exactly what you mean but logically it shouldn't really be any worse than talking to a passenger in the car should it? I know someone who recently got 3 points for eating a doughnut while driving.
