Which brake fluid?

Featured Replies

Just bought some replacement discs and pads for the car (312s up front), and thought I'd have the brake fluid changed at the same time.

What would you gys recommend? Are there any out there that are better than the standard stuff?

Whilst the car won't be subject to track use, I'm keen to use good stuff. I've read about dot 4 and dot 5.1, but don't know enough about them to make an informed decision.

Also, where can it be acquired? Halfords perhaps (got a trade card)?

Many thanks.

Anyone??

I'm sure someone out there must have changed, possibly upgraded their brake fluid on a Fabia vRS. I'd just like to know what people would recommend and where I might get it from please. Especially if theres only a few quid in it, might as well have better stuff if possible.

Thanks.

If you want decent stuff, I'd buy from Opie oils. They have a large selection of fluids to choose from.

Thanks Jim H.

What I'm asking is what type of brake fluid I can use eg. dot 4, and also what quantity I require also please.

Surely someone knows?

Thanks Benjiman

Some Dot 4 fluids have a better boiling points than Dot 5.1. So I would suggest a Dot 4 or Dot 5.1. Most modern fluids are those anyway. As said above, do not buy the silicone Dot 5 fluid.

Haynes says SAE J1703F or DOT 4 and when renewing you should flush the clutch cylinder aswell.
