Wheel noise when pulling away from cold

Featured Replies

Over the last week when pulling away first thing in the morning there is a grinding/rubbing type noise that seems to come from driver's side front wheel. Its the sort of noise you would expect if a piece of bodywork were fouling the tyre but this isn't the case. It only lasts for about 10 seconds and then disappears. It seems to be worst when the wheels are turned and does seem to increase with the revs. I have no idea what it is, can anybody suggest what I should be checking. Its an octavia Vrs. Many thanks.

Wheel bearing?

on my octy i notice that a similar noise is there most mornings especially when wet and cold albeit only slight. i think its the pads just clearing the discs of oxidisation/rust etc ? ever seen your discs a few hours after cleaning your car if you haven't driven it ?

Its definately not the brakes and I don't think its wheel bearings either but I

will get them checked. Would they not make a more constant noise?

I have something similar with my front left wheel - it only happens when I first move off and it lasts no more than a second . . . .

I'm not too concerned - I think it could be surface rust on the disc catching the pad - maybe the pad needs adjusting as it's too close to the disc? car is going for service in 4 weeks time so will get it looked at then - I will let you know.

My VRS does exactly the same. I feel sure it is rust and dirt on the discs being rubbed off.
