VCDS Registration

Featured Replies

Hi, i posted this in the Diagnostic & VCDS section but i'm not sure many people go in there. Can anyone help?

I've been offered a Ross-Tech HEX + CAN Lead and software (version 9.08 i think) for £80. I'm very tempted to buy it but i was wondering about registration of the product. If i'm buying it second hand will the product have been registered by the original owner and therefore be of little or no use to me? Do i have to be registered to download software updates from Ross-Tech?

I've heard people on here mentioning things like "fully registered VCDS" so i'm not sure if its worth me buying it or not? If i dont/cant register, will i not have full use of the software? Do i even need to register it? It says on the Ross-Tech website that they will only "support the original purchaser" and that you can pay $99 to re-register but what would be the implications if i do not register?

My main reason for wanting to buy it is so that i can upgrade to the Bolero HU. I need to change the CAN gateway and then re-code it. But when i've done that i'd like to try some other bits out. Once i'm familiar with it all i'll be able help anyone else out in the Hertfordshire area who may need the use of VCDS.

Thanks in advance, Lee
