Handling issues

Featured Replies

Evening all, my SDI is finally going great, apart form 1 thing!!!

Occasionally, it will wander all over the place at speed and sometimes struggle to maintain a straight line. I appreciate roads are not great at the moment but it is most definitely not right.

I have had 4 new tyres recently, all balanced, pressures ok and wheel alignment is all good, although i was told the camber is out slightly (but not easily adjustable). In addition, steering is generally pretty vague, and there seems to be alot of play in the wheel, and it knocks ever so slightly occasionally; it is as if you can feel some mechanical parts grinding against each other lightly. I'm no expert by any means, so i apologise if my description isn't perfect.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this might be?

get a garage to check the console bushes as they cause all the symptoms your decribing, have a search on here too for console bush replacement

Also have the following checked. Track rod ends for too much play, Ball joints for play, drop links, suspension strut top bearings. Anti roll bar bushes and bush end stops not broken or missing.

Well i have just been to the garage, and lo and behold, they have said that my rear suspension arm bushes are wearing...

Now, i've done some reading on here, ans i believe these are the console bushes - am i right? I guess going down the cupra bush route is the way forward now. Most garages i speak to around here seem to suggest replacing the whole arm as it's a pain in the arse to just do the bushes. I assume that is just them being lazy.

What should i expect to pay for the bushes and labour?
