Tyre Recommendations NOT for vrs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I know there are loads of threads about tyres, but all seem to be about vrs models - just wondering if us lowly non-vrs people had any different experiances?

Coming up to tyre change time for me - all down to less than 3mm. Got Dunlop SP 01 on 205/55 R16 at the moment, which have lasted ok, but droped off in performance over the last few thousand miles (understeers badly now), so fancy trying something different. Looking for something with a little bit of feel to them - I like to put my foot down occasionally ;) - not fussed for all these energy saving ones either. Any one got any good recommendations?

Also, I have 91W's on my 1.8T 20v atm (it came with W and I did like-for-like last time), but I think you can put on 91V's - Am I right? Some V's are a bit cheaper... ;)

Cheers.

Falken FK-452 are about 50 a tyre on camskill

I had Dunlops with 6mm on mine (Same size, and incidentally there are some RS, mostly estates, on this size) when I got it. 3000 miles later they were under 3mm. I fitted Toyo Proxes T1-Rs and they're doing 12_000 fronts from new to 3mm even though I'm sometimes cornering faster.

Avon ZV5. I have been very impressed with these. Quiet, very responsive and grippy wet and dry. Done 6k so far and they're still over 6mm.

£65 fitted a corner for 205/55/16W. Oh and I do put my foot down, quite often..... ;)

You're car really isn't that different from a standard vRS. Anything that works well on the vRS will work well on your car

Yep 2 x 1.8t Elegance's here that can vouch for that ;)

Cheers guys,

After checking a few prices of your suggestions, think I might go with some Falken 452s and see how I get on with them.

Thanks for the help though - much appreciated :)
