Creaking rear anti roll bar?

Featured Replies

Had a whiteline rear anti roll bar fitted several weeks ago, initially on the medium setting then switched to hard shortly after. I have recently been hearing a noise from the rear of the car which I thought was a knocking, possibly from the Milltek. Took my mechanic out in it today and it he diagnosed it as more of a loud creak. The assumption is that it's coming from the new bushes. We did grease them when they were fitted but maybe not enough and it was clear that the bar had been moving sideways and spreading the grease, so there might not be much left in the bushes now.

Has anyone else had this problem and what grease did you use. I have none of the original left and have heard that the wrong stuff can eat into the bushes. Any ideas?

just looking at this post Noba, Im going to be doing this Mod soon myself, did you ever get it resolved?

did you change to longer bolts or anything when installing? Id read somewhere that it was necessary to change to longer bolts

I fitted one of these 2 years ago, and wrote the 'How To Guide'. Not had any problems with mine, it is possible not enough grease was used but I would check the mounts over myself - and yes my bar moves sideways a little and spreads the grease so that is not an issue.

In my opinion the longer bolts at the wheel ends are essential as if you use the original VAG bolts you will only have half the threads engaged and holding your bar on.

I would check the fitments to ensure all the bolts are secure, re-greasing the bushes is easy but again I would use new VAG bolts for the bush mounts

Had the same problem with mine. IMHO the grease supplied in the kit isn't up to much. The place that fitted mine (JabbaSport) had the car back, re-greased the bar with a different product and it has been fine since.

I used to have to re-grease the bushes on my APR rear arb about every 6 months, to stop it sqeaking.

I think I used Slick50 grease with 'teflon'; no aparrant deterioration in the bushes over 2 years.
