What Brakes/Pads/Fluid/Hoses for my vRS?

Featured Replies

I'm going for the 312mm brake upgrade on my Fabia vRS at the end of the month, what would you recommend as the best brakes/pads to get? the standard Octavia vRS ones or some uprated ones such as EBC/Black Diamond?

Also, what fluid have people used on their cars and what gives the best results. I know they vary from DOT 4 to 5.1, but that's not all the story and would like to know peoples opinion on which one works best.

Also, as for braided hoses? are they a worthwhile upgrade and at what cost? It seems like there is no point in upgrading the brakes to this extent and leaving the poxy standard vRS ones on...

Thanks for peoples input .

EBC Turbogroove disks are very good, and make a lovely noise under heavy braking...

I do hope that's not sarcasm...

...It's what every man needs :D

Hellfire,

Black Diamond disks

Ferodo DS2500 pads

Super DOT 4 fluid, either Castrol or Silkolene Pro Race 2000 (if your pockets are deep). Why Super DOT4? Well, it is fully compatible with what you have now unlike DOT5, it has a dry boiling point only a couple of degrees below the DOT5 but the wet boiling point is higher. It will also allow you to stick to the usual Skoda recomended change interval of 40k miles. DOT 5 fluid needs to be changed more frequentsly, eg Castrol SRF needs to be changed every 6-10k miles and at

The hoses mummy, tell them about the hoses mummy.... :D

Hoses?

Don't bother changing them unless you are changing the callipers and need different connectors. The standard hoses are reinforced already (essentially brided hoses) with a rubber sheath on the outside. Save the

for the black diamonds... which type would you recommend the lad??

i used cross drilled ones once and they warped... (not on the vRS though)

(essentially brided hoses) with a rubber sheath on the outside.

:naughty: Well, if they're brided, why bother with the rubber sheath

On a serious note though, I'd second Jon even though he only drives an sdi octy taxi. :P

Had DS2500 pads on the front with super dot 4 on my ex furby and it was awesome. What I didn't do was change the rear pads or use diamond discs on the front - I just got some OEM 312mm discs. They didn't warp but I think Colin (neo_vr) has managed to get brake fade and warp them under severe abuse :D

If I were to do it again on my next furby (when I find one :(), I'd think about changing the rear pads too to try and even out the braking a bit. The DS2500 bite so damn hard that it really tends to make the car nose heavy under hard braking :)

Cool, thanks for the input, however I suppose even normal Octavia vRS 312mm discs & pads will be more than sufficient to slow me down :)

tavia your getting confused between dot 5 and 5.1 i think

check to see if performance friction do some pads for the 312mm setup the pads are awsome and you get sparks when stamping on the brakes lol

Trouble with the PF carbon metallics is that they knacker your wheels and can damage paintwork, unless you clean afetr pretty much each trip. Much like the DS3000s. Primarily a competition pad, hopeless when cold, noisey, dusty destroy disks etc etc Ran them on mine, awesome stopping power but the downsides far outweighed the upsides for fast road use.

Standard disks are fine, but do change the pads to the Ferrodos, or if skint the Pagid Blues.

Re the fluid, DOT5 and 5.1 are fairly similar. Both do offer better dry boiling points but go "wet" quicker and don't offer as good wet boiling points as the Super 4.1. Beside which, a decent 5 or 5.1 is damned expensive.

Go for the grooved BD disks.

OEM 312mm discs are about

OEM 312mm discs are about

my mate doesnt seem to have had any problems with cold stopping really and not any problems with the sparks melting paintwork either as far as im aware
