1.9 sdi chippable?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a fabia estate and a lot seem to be the sdi.

.Is it gutless compared to the tdi.Can it be chipped to something more useful performancewise .?

I'm not sure if a an SDI can be mapped. If it you will not gain as much power as you can with a TDI. A digital tuning box may be a better idea, however they may make the car produce more smoke.

This may me a useful thread: 1.9 SDI tuning

The SDI`s are reliable and solid, will go on for years, but speed is not there forte.

Some useful opinions and some strong opinions (LOL) in this thread...

Basically, yeah, it can be mapped.

In that thread, which is the same one I posted, a remap will not make much extra power. It will increase from 68bhp to 75bhp, (an extra 7 bhp), which is hardly worth it, considering you can normally get an extra 30 bhp from a TDI.

I agree, I loved the second comment in that thread.

The best way to tune up an SDI is....

Take it to a dealer and trade it in against a TDI.

The SDI is a lovely bus, ride the torque curve rather than rev the nuts off it.

A remap will widen the useable powerband, and add a few more lb/ft of torque which will just add to the fun.

I'd much rather drive an SDI than the other half's PD100, in fact we are seriously considering changing the PD100 for an SDI estate.

Colours ... mast ... nailed. Get the picture? :giggle:

As he said.
