EML misfire detected

Featured Replies

HAd my engine mil light up a few times past few days .... = Engine running too lean. Dont know if this is the CAI causing it or that the MAF is actually knackered this time but idle revs are stable (apart from just after clearing faults when it re teaches itself kinda thing)

This evening... had the EMl again ... same too lean error ... but this time i also had Random/Multiple Misfire detected, this said it was in 1 2 and 4. This just throwong a random wobbly at me? seemed like the car drove fine to be honest.

Just it judder on hard acceleration, sounds like fuel starvation to me as its running lean

Lean can be caused by VAC leaks before the turbo, so you need to check the crank case breather pipes and all the connections going into the TIP after the MAF but before the turbo. After the turbo would be boost leaks. The missfires are likely as a result of the lean condition as well, so when you have found any leaks and rectified them you need to clear all codes and take it for a good test drive :D

Crank case breather hose is fine i changed that last week or so.

The pipe from the MAF to the turbo seems fine

I seem to get like a blowing sound (like an exhaust blowing) when the car runs choke when you first turn it on from cold before the revs drop. sounds like its coming from the depths of the engine bay.

Doesnt judder on accell.

could it be this CAI, obviously you can get air in more freely, but surely the MAF would account for that? unless is knackered. do people have the extra air income like tuned out or something?

The noise from cold would be the secondary air pump, should last for around 90 seconds. I've read that they can cause the eml light to come on when they are faulty, might be worth doing a search on here

Is the lean fault code additive or multiplicative?, if additive it suggests that it is running lean at idle and the vacuum pipes at the front close to the dip stick would be the first place to look.

ill have abnother read of the codes tommorow as i expect it will bling its way onto my dashboard on the way to work again lol

Thanks for the help so far

this is the lean code number and the engine revs higher than expected code number:

16831 and 17544

anybody shed anymore light?

Could it be down to the fuel im using, maybe a certain stations brand of petrol it doesnt like. ive tried running High octane aswell ...

As said, under the manifold, have a listen for a hissing sound, then get your finger under there and start prodding
