Well my compressor is fecked. Well done VAG for supplying crap parts!

Bummer :( What's it doing/not doing? No RPM for the compressor shown?

I kinda forgot I had VCDS, so did some playing around last night: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/200455-another-air-con-thread/ - any ideas anyone!?

Thanks!

the oil is used to lubricate the pump and seals, hence the advice given to run up the air con at least for 10 mins once a month to make sure the seals are lubed.

Not necessary on an Octy.

The A/C compressor is ALWAYS running unless you have a fault with the cooling fans, low/high A/C gas pressure or a an engine related fault code stored in the ECU. They aren't like the old units that have a clutch, they have an internal valve that regulates the amount of refirigerant being pumped round the system. This design is specifically to keep the seals lubricated.

Surely that all depends on if you have the climatic/climatronic system fitted and if you have a habit of turning the system off completely.

I had my old Octavia compressor fail last summer. bill was well over £1100. they wouldn't just replace the compressor but some other parts as well otherwise it wouldn't be covered under warranty, so ended up with almost a new air con system.

Decided to sell after that and bought a Yeti instead as it had almost 100k on the clock.

Interesting, my Yeti is at Rainworth at the moment, having it's compressor replaced. If I'd seen this before, I would have tried pressing all the buttons to see what was happening, but they'd checked it previously and the system showed fully charged and working, except no cold air was coming out.

Interesting my Octavia Estate 1.6TDi is going in on Friday to have the air con checked as it is not blowing out cold air. 6 months on the road 7300miles on the clock and the air con started making a gurgling noise about 3 weeks ago then it stopped making the noise but the air con is still working but NO cold air. Was at the dealer this morning and it is booked in for an air con check on Fri 13th May. Service Manager thinks the air con is needing re-charged but will check the system in full.

Promised work will be done under warranty UNLESS they find it is "damaged". Air con systems after 1 year becomes a warranty grey area according to the service manager I spoke to this morning. SO much for the three year warranty!!

I'd say that was rubbish. Why is it any different to any other of the car's components?

And for the record I had no issue with having the compressor replaced on my last Octavia when the AC wasn't functioning properly.... one month before my warranty expired.

Compressor on my 56 VRS has failed  , had a leak check and regas 2 weeks ago but already gone luke warm again with all sorts of gurgling noises from the centre of the dash.

Had a local AC specialist diagnose it this time and check fault codes etc.

Now waiting on a quote for repair. :S

By the looks of some of the posts on here, better start saving or is it worth considering purchasing a warranty?

If the compressor seizes up you also have to have a new drier as the system will have to be flushed.

Job done by local aircon specialist.

£480 all in, new Compressor, system flushed and recharged etc with 12 month warranty.

Got a bit of a discount due to my brother being in the motortrade, still more money than I wanted to spend at the moment though.

New drier not required as failure was electrical and not mechanical, this guy told me he is currently doing 15 - 20 of these a month across the VAG range.

If the system has been flushed with the drier in place the flush will have rendered that pretty much done.

Guys I have a question, My AC technician suggested these cars which have an electric type control valve on the compressor need to have the climate control on at all times.I have the manual type and in my country at night I have the habit of switching it off completely and driving with the windows down. Can someone confirm if I have to leave on the AC right through 24/7?could leaving it off be the reason why the AC control valve eventually start to leak thereby preventing the climate control from cooling efficiently?

The a/c is running all the time anyhow so it's fine.

hmm..at this point I don't know if to bother with the advice my AC tech gave me then, cuz he's saying leave on the blower manually all the time which just burns extra gas IMO....ok then thanks Tech1e

Great information guys!.

I had "something" go "wizz - crunch" on my 06 Vrs a month ago but had no idea what it was until I found I had no aircon. Looking around the forums I suspected the compressor had sheared and feared the worst.

However, I've done the check on the climatronic display (19 small 4) as described above and it numbers do show up, and they rise when revving the engine.

Does this mean the pump is running and possibly OK??? If it had sheared, I assume ompresssor rpm readings would stay @ zero??

Perhaps I just need a re-gas??

Any thoughts

When my compressor failed all the numbers on the climate display looked fine, rising when revved etc. Pump had still failed though and was not blowing cold air. Fixed by dealer with good will gesture from Skoda for £195 instead of the £1149 they originally wanted.

That was on a 58 plate car with 40k on the clock, 2 months out of warranty.

If your in South Wales don't go to Capitol Skoda in Newport to have anything fixed.

I got charged £79 for a 2nd gas refil on a 16 month old Octy. I'm waiting for it to stop working again to go back and get a refund.

All they want to do is check for the dye but as other people have said on here the gas can leak from other components in the system.
