Alternator belt

Featured Replies

Whilst I was busy scraping all the skin of my hands and arms earlier (reattaching washer hose under the washer bottle) I noticed that the alternator belt has some transverse cracks in it.

How hard is it to change the belt? Looks fairly easy in the Haynes manual? Does the whole of the inner arch cover need to come off?

Didnt you say in a other thread that your getting your cambelt changed soon? if so get it done then as its got to come off for the cambelt to be replaced so you will only pay for the belt & no labour.

I did it from underneath/above without needing to remove the wheel arch liner. Just need to be able to release the tension on the tensioner. If you have a helper then someone can hang on a spanner, if not you need to lock the tensioner, remove the old belt, fit the new one, and then pull out the tension pin. There is not a great deal of space to do this however!
