remap warranty question

Featured Replies

Hi

I take it that any sort of remap on the car invalidates the warranty? I've been reading with interest about how it boosts performance and mpg, but there's no way I'll do it 'till the warranty runs out. (Not that that will be a problem since the continuing non-event delivery date on the car means that I'll probably die of old age before I get it :( )

All info greatfully accepted :)

cheers

Chris.

It won't affect the warranty unless the remap directly caused the issue. Many dealers offer remaps on cars they sell. Had mine done after 800 miles. Gone a little ott since!

It's a myth that a remap invalidates your warranty. If it causes a problem then the dealer and or Skoda may refuse to fix it under warranty.

Got revo remap on mine on second day and about 140 miles

I am guessing it would affect insurance though, if the mod is undeclared...

Hell yer it would - but if you can afford to have your car properly remapped, then you can afford the rather minor increase to your premium from having it done.

how would the insurance company calculate what extra premium to charge?

They have their ways.

Some won't touch you at all - a lot of the mainstream insurers are scared of remaps.

Admiral will, as far as I can remember.

Then there are the more specialist insurers like Chris Knott.

To be honest a Stage 1 remap doesn't add too much to your premium - I believe most people find it quite easy to insure.

In my limited experience they'll ask you for a percentage power increase and base it on that.

All this info has been very useful guys,

thanks :) !!

Hi mate-it would be well worth ringing Ben at Shark Performance (site sponsor) about this question over warranty. I think he will explain it in a very honest and reassuring way-many members have got their cars remapped whilst still under factory warranty, with zero issues.

Ben has a seperate section on the site under site sponsors and is highly regarded by many on here.

thanks

I'll check it out.

FYI... I paid an extra £70 over last years insurance premium as I had a remap done, based on 20-25% increase in power. Obviously the figure I would of been quoted for std spec might not have been the same. Via Chris Knott btw... and remap courtesy of Ben (Shark)
