vrs alloy costs

Featured Replies

ok guys and gals, im thinking about a new vrs and am a little confused about the cost of the optional colour alloys

my dealer is very new so not sure if they know what there doing or not, no vat free on optional extras for instance when it clearly states on Skoda's site that extra's are vat free if purchased together ;)

so my q is, are the black alloys priced individually (£110) or is that to exchange all 4? £440 seems an awful lot just for a colour change

for £440 i could buy another aftermarket set or get the originals powdercoated for a lot less myself

110 is all 4!

+1 yes it's 110 for all 4

Unusually, Skoda seem to be one of the few car manufacturers who do the decent thing and not charge loads to "upgraded" alloys.

Vauxhall for example charge £500 if you upgrade standard alloys - which when you consider theyre retaining the standard ones is a bit harsh.

That's probably for an increase in size though isn't it? The fabia vrs wheels are all the same, just a different colour. Which probably won't cost them anything at all!! Except for the dark chrome, that's a more complicated manufacturing process.

Yea but again, how much does it cost to mass produce one different alloy - not much increase (if any) in raw materials. Then there's the tyre - less is more in terms of cost when it comes to tyres. I just think it's a bit cheeky.

All of it comes down to production volumes. If it is a smaller run of larger wheels the cost goes up, the same as tyres. 205/45/16's are cheap as chips cos they are fitted to everything, hence large volumes, but the 205/40/17's on the vrs are rarer so more expensive (and they're higher rated of course :giggle:) . However this does make the increase in the cost of the option alloys a bit more difficult to justify.

thanks guys, i'd happily pay £110 for all 4 so ill check with them again, i want the all black so there going to be the easiest to paint as there isnt 2 colours like the black and silver, that'd be more work but still not worth £440

Depends on if you are ordering them as an option on a new vRS. If you are then yes,it's £110. If not then it's actually £130 per wheel without tyres. My set cost me £800 with tyres. Did keep my originals though so have got two sets.

Indeed the wheel upgrades are cheap only because the finish is different, the wheel is identical on all four finishes

Still staggered that Honda charge £1350 for the upgraded alloys for the CRZ.
