New 1.6MPI

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just taken delivery of my new octavia. Im hoping that the decision to cross back from the dark side (previous diesel car) to petrol wont bite me too hard in the wallet, but with such a good deal on the 1.6 MPI SE, it was too good a deal to overlook in order to get myself into a brand new car. My daily commute consists of a mix of some urban and motorway driving, so it will be interesting to see how this thing stands up. Im under no illusions that it will struggle to get close to my previous car (1.9tdi polo)on fuel consumption, but its a price worth paying for a comfortable cruising machine, with a huge amount of passenger and load space. My first impressions are good, with the engine being quiet and smooth, and the gearbox slick combined with a light clutch action. On the motorway the engine only becomes audible as you begin to exceed the legal limit, but it could have done with either a taller 5th gear, or better still a 6th in order to cut the revs down a bit and help with economy. First run however to and from work (and with quite blustery conditions) the brand new engine returned 42.8 MPG over 120 mile trip which is indicating a range of 520 miles from a full tank. Im hoping as the engine breaks in this may head north of 45 MPG, so watch this space for regular updates.
