Help for newbie please.

Featured Replies

Hi new to skoda's so if I sound a bit stupid please forgive me.

I have a M reg Felicia a have a few questions.

The person a brought it of swapped the clocks for some of a V reg because the rev counter did not work. Now the temperature gauge does what it feels like, with in 3 mins of starting it goes to the red then comes down then goes back up then down and so on. I need to get this sorted as I baked my last car as the temperature gauge did not work.

All so at the front of the engine, just above the oil filter, there is a plate which seems to be leaking. What is this call so I can get a new gasket for it.

And finally the radio signal can be really bad. This seems to get worse when plugging something in to the cigarette lighter. It is really annoying. :S

Hope someone can help

Not sure about the other questions, but the part of your engine that's leaking is the cam followers cover gasket. You'll probably be able to get hold of one from jorily skoda parts (google).

PS as a cheat mine was also leaking, removed it from the car cleaned it put a bit of grease on the gasket and tightened back up. It worked (stopped leaking) but if someone's got the bits in stock just swap it.

The cam follower gasket also has 4 rubber bung type things around the nuts. Worth replacing these too while you're at it.

Temp gauge, would check the wiring from temp sender and at back of the dash. Points where it could go wrong, the sensor itself, the gauge in the dash, and the wiring. It is easy to eliminate the temp sender either by replacing it or using a multimeter. I also wonder if the thermostat is opening properly but even then going to red in a few minutes seems improbable.

Thanks for your replies. Just looking at the pics in the common issues tread and the temperature sender on the 1.3 engine has 4 wires coming out of it, mine only has 1! :S Could it be that the clocks the previous owner fitted is the wrong one of my car and is giving a wrong reading?

More than likely, your car will be a single point injection engine, whereas a V plate on would be multi point fuel injection. The printed circuit boards for the instrument panels will be different.
