Since then ive:

Removed bull bar

Removed tow bar

All terrain tyres

Fitted side exit exhaust

Fitted dislocation cones

Done some welding

Custom made a rear towing eye

Fitted front diff gaurd

Stripped out carpets for easier cleaning and found some rust

So more welding

Fitted cargo net on bonnet for holding towing slings while still being attached to towing eyes

35mm Wheel spacers

Anyway enough of the chit chat! Pics!!!:

Very nice! Like the exhaust too, not too sure if pedestrians will though!

One car I definatly want to own at some point in life.

Im so glad ive bought mine. Its terrible to drive. Steering is slack, slow, ****e on fuel, gearbox crunches, you get dirty just getting in and out of it lol.

Buts i love driving it!!

And that exhaust is quite fun actually, especially when you get people parked on kerbs that they shouldnt be and you struggle to pass them. Just stop by them and a quick flick of the throttle makes you feel better. Lol Nice black sooty mark on their car

If you do anymore deeper wading you will need a snorkle and some breather pipes

This is a good site if you like Wading !

Cheers mate, yeah im going to make a snorkle on saturday and extend the diff breathers higher!

Don't forget the transfer box (and gearbox if not an auto) ;)

They are fun to own, but I don't miss spending half my weekends welding/fixing/breaking my old one!

Yeah im doing them aswell.

Need to find somewhere deep to try it all out :p

Sounds fun! Apt quote that is applied pretty frequently in 4x4 training scenarios mind 'wading is expensive' ;)

Make sure you take it all off again after and clean/drain, water/mud WILL get through the seals to diffs/gearboxes etc and if your breathers go up it isn't coming out. ;)

I know, off roading is generally rather expensive tbh.

My disco is only averaging 19.5 mpg at the best of times.

Trying to take all the precautions before hand to prevent damage rather than fixing it!

EDIT- Oh for god sake. How do you add a facebook video to a post?

I have done a fair bit in Discoverys they are pretty cool, the lack of a lockable axle troubles me but their articulation is sufficent to not make me worry too much. Just not partiuclary reliable, easy to fix though.

Went from Discoverys onto Landcruisers and Patrols they are awesome.

Think yourself lucky on the MPG my Landcruiser VX does on a run 15mpg and offroad between 6-9...! But it goes anywhere...

Enjoy your offroading! Take it down to Salisbury Plains.

Whats it like at the plains?

Whats it like at the plains?

Awesome fun, especially if it's been raining fairly recently. Even more ridiculous though if there snow around, and it is very easy to get totally lot.

Have a look at some of my photos from a Salisbury Plains trip.

You'll need to go with someone else though as it's not too difficult to get stuck especially if you start messing in the tank fields.

My mate goes green laning in NY with a load of nutters called the Yorkshire Mudrunners. He has just joined another lot and they seem to include off roading, more of roading, food, beer, more beer, and yet more food & beer on their weekend trips...Sounds a right laugh...Must try and join em at some point, seeing as from later this month my mate will have his 109 on the road and his Disco...

It's gripped, its sorted..LET'S OFFROAD!

Looks really good there. Definately going to have to go there i think!

Cheers

Another excellent place to go is Slindon4x4, I think it open every 4th Sunday of the month, that place isn't especially huge but has some seriously tricky terrain.

Nice 300TDi Disco. My favorite Land Rover engine.

Best one IMO before electronics and more expensive repairs started to creep in.

Other than bolt on toys you can offset a lot of the cost with good maintenence after a session in mud or water.

Problem with water/mud is it makes a fantastic grinding paste.

Lots of cleaning and greasing is needed afterwards.

I'd nearly forgotton how many £££ I spent on offroading over the last 8 years... :o

Generally keep my Defender out of deep water now. Cheaper in the long run.

On a Disco with All Terrains and no axle diff lockers you are going to sruggle on a lot of the trickier stuff, (as you know James) but it's a good way to practice recovery techniques.

Yeah prob doesnt really do them alot of good, although while ive got the truck just want to get through some thats 4ft deep just to see what its like :)

Ive got a terratagging event on this weekend so hopefully there will be water there :D

If you are going that deep you'll need more than a Snorkle.

You'll need to seal up the joins on the airbox and ducting, plus seal the vent near the air filter if it has one like the Defender. As that'll let water in too as when the rubber gets old it loses it's ability to be airtight in one direction.

Although you'll be OK on a quick pass, you have to plan on getting stuck in the water...

That's when the bow wave is lost and it fills the engine bay.

Here is a little pic of my toy. :)

Whilst The Plain can be great fun, please be aware that MOD Plod and the Range Wardens do not take kindly to finding people away from the Rights of Way. They do and will issue Sect 59 Notices and have the power of seizure, especially if you argue with them. MOD Plod especially are NOT to be argued with.

It is very easy to become confused on The Plain, where MOD tracks and RoW's crisscross each other, so accurate navigation is required.

These sites gives some general advice and a phone number for details, plus there is a link to the Range Wardens web site somewhere:
