So does anyone know of a bolt you can buy for this?

I'm interested as until I was recovered by the AA due to a massive coolant leak I didn't realise the FMIC pipework blocked the hole for the towing eye.

In terms of practicality it'd certainly be beneficial to have one fitted just in case.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, excuse the cheesy pun ;)

I have mentioned (in a few thread now) that a Regal TRS tow strap and mounting kit can be purchased directly from Regal Autosport for about £45. Pricey, but it seems to be the only 'one stop shop' solution to this, and it can be permanently fitted being the fog light surround.

I've ordered one, which is currently being 'machined' and am happy to report back on the kit when it arrives, which should hopefully be by the end of the week.

just want to know why a left hand thread?

took me ages to figure out how to fit the thing onto my old black vrs

Jesus Christ.. £45 for it??

If you want one making for £45 i'll chop your hand off :D

Pip,

Specifically which bolt did you tighten into the original tow eye thread please? I ask as I've done the same; as the Forge pipework also blocks off my towing eye hole. I'm just unsure if the bolt I've got will be strong enough to take the strain of the car being towed. I wondered if you were using a strengthened bolt.

So, basically, which size bolt are you using? Where did you get it from? And finally, have you been towed using it?

I've done this purely for practicality, and don't want the bolt shearing should I ever need to use it.

Many thanks.

just a thought on this thread...

I've got the Seat sport fmic, and my towing eye/tow bolt fits just fine.

I got towed out over the winter when stuck in snow..

I guess there must be differences on vehicles owing to tolerances etc.

There is a little bit of give in my intercooler pipes (Forge FMIC and hoses) but I'm not keen on manipulating them that much to fit the original tow eye; paranoid about disturbing something.

Thats why I'm keen on finding a reliable solution using the TRS tow strap or similar.

Ive locktighted the origional toweye in Place. (well the thread and about 1cm of shaft) then drilled out the centre and taped it. Think i used 12mm and just used a strong 12mm bolt. I would have thought it would hold a tow, but maybe not it it was yanked out of a ditch or something lol.

When using the SS FMIC and Forge pipework the tow eye hole is slightly covered.

The main reason i couldn't get it in is because the tow eye actually goes in and faces down and the pipe is in the way. Took a few pictures, which dont really help my explanation lol.

The bolt isn't going in 90* to the car it's more like 75*.

Hopefully someone will know what i mean :o

an 8.8 tensile bolt to pull a 1.3 tonne car...

i think not :wonder:

i can snap them with a ratchet and my arm

The bolts fine. Jase, you've just applied torque and snapped a bolt, complete different load (tensile) to pulling a car.

I once had to work out how much weight one of our pylon bolts could take before being pulled apart........it washing equivalent of around 300 tonne.

So, Gareth_1.8T, any joy with the Regal product? I would hope you are in receipt of it by now. I'm interested to know about the quality of their "machined" product. Please post your findings/feelings and if possible some photographs if and when you can.

£30 ain't all bad if they turn out a mint item that is reliable and trustworthy. As regards the TRS strap, well they can be had at cheaper prices elsewhere.

Unfortunately, i've not received the tow strap yet - which clearly isn't the greatest advert for Regal....

I shall be chasing them today for an update, but i'm sure they'll sort it...

They are rubbish with emailing back as well, when i asked about how long the adapter is cause i need a fairly short one to fit behind the FMIC pipework

I made my Tow strap bracket out of my old tow eye, il try and get a picture later on today

When I made the last one for my mates Leon I made another, think it's still in my tool box. I'll dig it out.

Update - it will be with me tomorrow :)

Iv just realised how poor my camera phone is...

Only minor prob is that the adapter doesn't fit my car!!!!! Arrgghhh!!!

Have sent a email to Regal and will update with their response.....
