is that not just going to shear off at the thread and nut when used? Or bend?

To be honest i hadn't looked into it. I knew it would be brought up and it was on my mind anyway, but for the time being I wanted to get it on the car. It wont be on the track for a while (if this year) so its not going to be used in the to distant future.

Maybe someone who has engineering knowledge can advise how it would stand up. 10mm bolt from memory

I'd also be interested to know. It hadn't occurred to me you could do it that way (like st3f4n).

Has anyone with modified/altered tow eyes actually been towed with them?

For the time being I have my old one chopped down to the thread with an M8 bolt tapped into it. I've yet to get a tow strap (Sy., I'll PM you later regarding that), but am interested to know from anyone more informed than me what will be a reliable solution.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but im about to fit a forge FMIC and wanted to sort a tow eye out, can anyone tell me the thread size of the tow eye, m14 15 16 17 ect as im pretty sure a TRS strap and left handed rose joint will sort the job.

Hi All

I have found a guy who will happily (professionally) make up a batch if we get some orders in...

I suggest if anyone can tell me how deep the bolt and thread needs to be then I will order one at a higher price and see how it goes and then I can start a group buy and maybe keep some spares with me if any latecomers want them?

Let me know guys!

Tom

EDIT: and its deffo a 12mm bolt? M12?

Edited by TheOnlyJest

I cut the eye off the original Skoda tow bar and ground 2 flats so the bar could be tightened with a 17mm spanner (left hand thread)

I then drilled+tapped an M10 thread and bolted a TRS strap to the bar end, I haven't had the car towed using it, but can't see why it wouldn't work.

Personally think they just look silly.

Almost as bad as the trend of Smurfs hanging from rear tow straps !!

^^^^ +1 fine if your on track but silly on the road.

Thank you !

Unless of course, said car is likely to break down a lot ?

For me... I do a lot of track days, so it's a requirement

but even on the road, if i break down i wanna be able to be towed!

my fmic piping blocks the original towing eye, so i have no choice

i dont have my strap on display though. usually its hidden behind the grill.

is the TRS "hole" smaller than the tow eye thread?...

did anyone ever secure an order for the bolts mad eup to attach the tow straps to?
