Brake Fluid Change - capacity

Featured Replies

Am I right in thinking I need 2L to be on the safe side? Just wondering if anyone has the exact reservoir size to hand, as I might have some RBF 600 spare. And as it's in 500ml bottles, I want to know how many I'll need to order :)

Thanks,

Steve.

2L will be fine to flush the system & top up the reservoir.

Yep, that's my info.

I'm just wondering on the exact details really. As in, if I buy 1.5L and have 250ml left over from a previous change, is that sufficient........

Brake fluid deteriorates - absorbs water - in a previously opened tin so its best not to use 2 year old left-overs in a fluid change. Best buy a new sealed tin.

I know that as well. The remaining fluid is suitable, but thanks :)

Still after the exact size of the brake fluid reservoir.......

Why? lol. it will hold approx 0.5-1L 2 Litres is easily enough to do a routine brake fluid change, ive never used more than that on any car ive changed the fluid on. if your concerned about not having enough then buy another litre, you can always return it if you dont use it.

Knowing the "exact size" (capacity) of the reservoir will not tell you how much you need to completely change

the whole breaking system fluid as you have to take into account the pipe work and wheel cylinders.

This is amusing. All I was after was a bit more accurate info than the usual '2L will be enough'. RBF 600 is what I'm using and it's £15 per 500ml from Opie. With the circa 250ml I have spare, all I was wondering was whether to buy 3No. 500ml bottles, or 4 :)

Not to worry.

Nice attitude! if our help isnt good enough for you then i suggest you ring skoda for your exact capacity of the brake fluid reservoir. In 20+ years of been a mechanic ive never needed to know the exact size of the brake fluid reservoir to do a fluid change. :giggle:

How is my attitude in question? What do you have issue with? PM me if you like....

I was asking a question, to which I thought there would be a simple answer. Obviously not.
