RCD 510 in place of Bolero?

Featured Replies

Hi,

There doesn't seem to be many Bolero's about sale at the moment. Does anyone know if the VW RCD 510 will fit in to the Octavia and work ok? There's a lot more of these for sale on Ebay. Are there any negatives to using the VW unit apart from it saying VW on start up and the lighting being red? Can the lighting be changed?

Thanks, Lee

RCD510 is effectively the same unit, just for VW. They do tend to be more plentiful 2nd hand, as the Golf's more popular.

Negatives are as you say - VW branding and the lighting will look a bit strange with everything being green. And it's a pretty tricky job to swap the LEDs. You'd have to be pretty skillful.

That said, it will fit and function. Pretty sure the bezel/surround design is the same, so using a Skoda dash fascia should be OK. If it were me though I'd test fit one if possible.

Hhhmmm. I'm not very skillful! I wouldn't be happy with the red lighting so i guess i'll have to wait for a Bolero to turn up.

Thanks.

It's not worth the £290 BIN in my view, but could be worth keeping an eye on.

I've been watching this one. He hasn't got the code for it though. He says a phone call to the dealer would sort that out but its an extra cost i guess (not sure how much). Its been relisted once or twice as the reserve hasn't been met.

I would put the emphasis on him to get the code. It needn't be a problem to obtain, especially as it's from a pretty new car and he can just get the supplying dealer to assist. All they actually need is the serial number from the unit.

If it were me, I'd message him with a price you were prepared to pay, subject to him obtaining the code.

Good idea, i'll do that now.

Good luck. Could be in your interests, as the lack of code will no doubt be putting others off.

Hi. do you know if RCD 510 will fit in my octavia 2006 MK2 1.6fsi? thank you

why do you want a vw radio, I think there are a couple of Boleros in the for sale section

I have an rcd 510 with code if you want one

Honestly, I did the Stream - Bolero upgrade and very quickly upgraded again to a Columbus. Well worth it...

I'm sure there are a couple of boleros in the for sale. Makes sense to stick with Skoda, it looks right

I put an RCD510 into my car as it was the best way (for me) to integrate DAB, Bluetooth and Media-In.

If I could get a Columbus with DAB for a reasonable price, I would be fitting one.
