How to replace wing mirror properly?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I fixed my wing mirror on my car many months ago, but it has never been adequate. The replacement mirror that I got was a stick-on one that was simply placed on top of the old mirror, and it doesn't offer the wide field of view that I was used to.

Can someone explain how I would go about extracting the old mirror properly, so I can fix a new one in the old slot? When I last took a look, it seemed like I could have broken the very thin shield the mirror is contained in if I had tried to extract it with force.

Thanks for the help!

Nick

You have to pull hard on the glass from the top or the bottom, I can never remember which way and it unclips. The new glass comes complete with the circular clip on the back.

Well, that narrows it down a bit, now I have a 50/50 chance of destroying the back plate! :)

Just so I am clear - do I have to remove the glass from the back plate (in which case I need to wedge something in there), or does the glass+plate come off as one piece?
