air con

Featured Replies

have noticed over the last week or so that the windscreen has misted up a lot and i'm sure i can smell damp air. i take it its time i get my aircon serviced

IIRC there can be a build-up of mould on the condenser plate, which gives a musty smell...

It's worth trying to dry out the system by blowing warm air though on a dry day. Do this a couple of times and see if it helps matters.

Bear in mind that the air-con won't be helping demist things if the temperature < 5deg.c

will try the warm air thing and didn't know about the <5 thing, has been lower than 5 every time. why doesn't it work below this?

To protect the system against frost.

It forms when you get dampness on the condenser plate after you turn it off - hence the advice to run it in "econ" mode for a bit to dry the plate off before it's left to sit. If you've used it frequently, you'll probably find it's not too bad and the smell is mainly just damp air staying in the ducting...however, if it persists, there is some cleaner which dealer's spray onto the condenser plate. I do belive it's a fiddly job though...

might just take a drive to MK and get the aircon serviced, now if only there was a decent dealer/mechanic in MK ;)
