Which is best progressive or linear springs?

Featured Replies

Hi

As the title says what is best?I have KW V1 coilovers with progressive springs but have heard people talk about their KW's with linear springs.If linear is better is it possible to retrofit them to my kit?

Thanks

Personaly I think Progresive is better for day-day driving, you still retain more comfort when driving gently.

Any Queries on KW talk to James on 01926 484111 (Uk KW main importer, cant remember the company name)

Edited to add the company is Recaro

I'd agree - as I understand it, progressive springs for everyday driving, linear for trackdays, simply because progressive springs will be more responsive to smaller bumps, giving a smoother ride day-to-day; whereas linear springs will compress proportionately to the amount of force applied, and so will give better handling 'on the edge'.

Basically:

Progressive = comfort

Linear = handling

Linear will shake ya to bits on real roads :D

Progressive springs have a rising spring rate - basically, the more you compress them the stiffer they get. A progressive spring can be sensitive to very small bumps on the road, while still giving the stiffness you need during hard braking and turning.

progressive = handling and comfort :thumbup:

Well all I can say is i've had both.

Progressive+KW2's = good on track,bad on the road

Linear+KW3's = Brilliant on the track, even better on the road. :D

i ran progressives.. if i did it again would go linear....

I remember Des's progressives.. he used to go grass tracking @ pembrey with them... at the mereest hint of a red octy in his mirror..... :rofl:

TBH took a gamble on tyres that day and it didn't pay, ho hum.

you sure... looked an awful lot like ambition exceeded talent to me.....

I prefer linear.

Both my sets of KW 3s have had linear, special order (as are the 3s) which has to be signed off by the competition department.

I like them as they have the same amount of give at all points in their travel, unlike progressives which start off softer and get stiffer the greater the load.

What talent!!...........At least I can admit it. :P
