Leaving car for weeks

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is there any problem with leaving an 05 mk 1 vRS standing for up to 4-5 weeks while I prepare the old car for sale? It will be garaged, with the wheels chocked/handbrake off, battery disconnected. My Dad's left his civic type r for this length of time previously outside, but we have had no experience of turbo cars so I was wondering if there's anything else that needs doing or if I have to take it for a run at some point? Being under 25 I struggle to get one day insurance on this type of car and the earliest I would consider multi car is my insurance renewal at the beginning of May.

An 05 mk1 vRS has popped up for sale local to me, which I am intending to go and look at in the week. I haven't seen many vRS' locally at what I would consider a good price (76k, good if not fsh, cambelt done for £3k) so I am quite keen to buy it if it looks good when I go to look at (I will be following the buying guide on here so thanks to chicken_eyebrow and the contributors for that one  ). It just isn't worth it if I'm going to end up damaging the poor thing.

The issue is my current car is due an mot and needs bits doing to it (brakes cleaning up, refresh gearbox oil, fix slow indicators following headlight dipping issue, couple of bodywork defects, etc.) before I sell it which I won't be able to get done before the end of my easter hols.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Rob

You would be fine.

Thay sit about for longer when then ship them ans at dealers :-)

regularly leave mine sitting outdoors for 2-3week stints. It's not ideal but I've had no problems so far other than rusty brake discs.

If it won't be moving for long periods of time then it might be worth putting a few extra psi in the tyres to prevent flat spots.
